Jason Dell, Security Practice Manager for NSI

On Tuesday, August 29, 2017, 5thColumn, along with Cisco and Network Solutions, Inc. (NSI), hosted the first in a series of quarterly cybersecurity update events at both the Cisco office in downtown Chicago and at the Marriott in Naperville. These events are aimed to bring the most current strategies to customers to keep their organization safe from costly breaches.

Jason Dell, Security Practice Manager for NSI presented on Ransomware Defense. He stated that “Email is the number one method of contracting Ransomware.” This is why every cybersecurity company strongly believes that educating your staff is one of the best proactive measures a company can take in their cybersecurity practice.

Jason also stated, “There’s no way to eliminate risk, you can only mitigate risk by implement the right solutions.”

Lauren White, Systems Engineer for Cisco presented Cisco’s new DNA Security Center. Launching in November, Cisco’s new Software Defined Access, will give customers a more simplified view into their entire network. This supports Cisco’s SMB recommendations from their 2017 Mid-Year Report that said, ‘security teams should work with vendors to provide solutions that integrate to simplify the security environment to a manageable yet effective level.’

The major take away from Lauren’s presentation was that, “Security should never be an afterthought.”

5thColumn’s Director of Marketing, Michaela Neatherton, discussed the company’s popular Cyber Warranty. 5thColumn is the first cybersecurity firm in the world to offer an unlimited cyber warranty across their full menu of products and services. Filling the gap left by cyber insurance, the cyber warranty provides ongoing monitoring of cybersecurity risk. In the event of a reportable data breach, the warranty covers the cost of 5thColumn’s professional services required to remedy the breach.

Everyone in that took time out of their day to hear about the latest in cybersecurity was given a $50 Amazon gift card as a thank you. One lucky attendee even won an Apple watch!

Thank you to everyone who came out, we look forward to seeing you at the next one!
